A sinus lift is a procedure that may be required prior to placing a dental implant in the upper jaw. The floor of the sinus is raised to create the space to place bone material. Your dentist will choose the source of bone material used; whether it be donor or synthetic. This is done when there is not adequate bone levels to support an implant.
The bone in the upper jaw is normally quite thin and you may or may not have the required width and height of bone to support an implant. In many cases the bone loss has occurred after the removal of a tooth. It is very dependent on about of time between extraction and implant placement. Healthy, strong bone is critical to the success of an implant.
