Dr. Shahriar Jalali
Dr. Shahriar Jalali received his DDS from Isfahan University of Medical Science in 1994, and his MSc in 2012 from RWTH Aachen University prior to immigrating to Canada. Dr.Jalali owned and operated a highly equipped dental office in Iran for 18 years. Upon his immigration to Canada, he wrote and passed all National Dental Board exams consecutively and received his licence in General Dentistry. He is an eminently qualified dentist who has made numerous oral presentations in cosmetic and laser dentistry in local and international dental circles.
Based on his education in Laser Dentistry, he has a wide variety of laser equipment in this office and offers different types of treatments using laser. Dr.Jalali is also highly trained in Integrated Implantology. Using 3D cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and combining it with intra-oral scanning. This allows Dr.Jalali to produce a 3D model of the patient and the ability to perform implant surgery with less bleeding and only cutting tissue in the most appropriate place and size. He is also trained in Invisalign Orthodontics, which combined with scanning teeth and their relation with intra-oral camera offers an excellent result.
Dr. Jalali has a continued passion for learning. He trained for CAD/CAM, which scans and produces a crown or several crowns and onlays in one appointment. In his free time, he enjoys being with his family, biking, and camping.
Dr Maryam Karami
Dr. Maryam Karami received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1995 from Isfahan University of Medical Science, in Iran. Right after the graduation, she was enrolled in the Pediatric Dentistry Specialty program at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She successfully completed the three-year residency program and obtained her Master of Science degree in Pediatric Dentistry in 1998 and shortly after opened her practice dedicated to treating children and teenagers.
From 1998 until 2016 Dr Karami also served as Associate Professor at Pediatric Dentistry Department of Isfahan Azad University, educating dental students and Pediatric Dentistry residents as well as doing researches. She was one of the founding members, and main architects of the Specialty Program in Pediatric Dentistry, and the Hospital Dentistry for Children with Special Needs, at Isfahan Azad University in 2008. She engaged in many research projects leading to publication of over 30 articles in peer-reviewed dental journals. She has been presented with awards for her research and was voted as the Distinguished Top Researcher at Isfahan Azad University for three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, Dr Karami with her husband, Dr Jalali, and their two children moved to Canada and completed successfully the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) Process and received her certification as a general dentist in Canada in 2016.
She is now a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and Canadian Dental Association and the Ontario Dental Association. She continues to attend numerous continuing education seminars each year to keep her in the forefront of dentistry.
Although she is practicing general dentistry for all age groups now, her passion still is to provide wide range of dental services for kids and teens. For this reason, The Downtown Dental Clinic is now equipped with a “just for kids” room to facilitate providing the highest quality and most comfortable dental care in a fun and caring environment for your kids.
In her spare time, Maryam enjoys painting, doing photography as well as spending time outdoors with her family and their dog, Happy.

Shannon graduated from Cambrian College’s Dental Hygiene program in 2007. She specialized and gained her experience while working in Periodontology in her home town of Peterborough before making the move to Ottawa. In 2013, Shannon continued her education and became Diode Laser Certified at the University of Sherbrooke in Montreal. She has been with The Downtown Dental Clinic for 6 years now and has built a great rapport with many of her clients and their families!
Shannon works hard to ensure a top-notch patient experience. She displays an exceptional amount of patience, kindness and compassion in her delivery of care. She helps our patients and their families by giving them one-on-one attention. Her organizational skills and spirit shine throughout the office & her warm smile and gentle hand keep her patients coming back.
Outside work, Shannon enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling and staying active. She’s always up for any new adventure and always planning her next trip around the world!
